With the beginning of the 20th century, unnecessary decorations on the clocks
completely disappeared and the functionality
was the center of attention. A "first designer style" developed and came from
artists and architects, like Josef Hoping, Gustav Klimt, Kolomann Moser, and
others. Clock cases were typically straight-lined with elegant, highly polished
glass. There was much use of beveled glass, brass, embossed brass, and 14 Kt Gold
Leaf as on the front of this clocks. Chapter rings, weights, and pendulums
were usually spun brass, embossed, or engraved.
