Miniatures (ca.1850-1890)

Quail Miniature by Karl Schoenberger

Miniatures were typically used to show the potential buyers the quality of the merchandise they would receive, as the vendors had a much easier time carrying the small clocks rather than the full size versions. So miniatures were typically made with a higher quality of craftsmanship. A true miniature clock is said to be no larger than 30" in length with a dial no larger than 4 ½", although there is a lot of controversy on these measurement. Many people confuse dwarfs and small Vienna Regulators with Miniatures. Miniatures were also sold to people who preferred a smaller clock to the typical, larger ones. A Miniature could have a running duration of 30 hours, 2 or 3 days, 8 days or more.
