This beautiful Time & Strike Viennese Regulator was made by Joseph Sprengler in
Freiberg, in the Kingdom of Selesia as is indicated on the
dial, circa
1870 or during the Transitional Period. The case measures a full 54" in
height, 16.5" wide
at the top, 15"
wide at the bottom,
and 7.75" deep. The
dial is a two
tiered porcelain dial with a brass insert, brass bezel, and brass key holes that
measures 7.25" in diameter and is in very good shape, except for two very minor
hairline.
The case is very decorative and a great example of the Transitional Period (Please see our
Home Page for more information on the Periods that clocks were made during). The
top piece has three
finials and a gold flower with two leaves and
underneath that
two large columns and three
smaller columns with a rectangular "diamond" directly underneath all of that.
The bottom is
also beautifully designed to perfectly complement the clock. The bottom also
has three finials which match and compliment the upper finials and there are also black
inset rectangles to give the bottom a flair and quite a bit of contrast. Finally
the bottom slopes gently inwards and then flares outwards to be finally complimented
by a single finial.
Overall, this is a beautiful and one-of-a-kind clock.
The pendulum is
approximately 27" in length and has a brass
bob to match the
weights.
It is also in front of a very beautiful backboard with a gorgeous piece of
inset wood. The
clock strikes the hour and half-hour on a specially tuned coiled
gong. This was
back in the era when gongs were specially made for the exact tune that a clock needed,
and they were truly a work of art!
The mounting for the movement on this clock are four
posts
that fit - and lock into place - in four holes in the back plate of the
movement. So all
you have to do to remove the movement, is to lift it a little and then pull it out
- very neat and easy. Be sure to remove the weights first.
Also, the clock comes with its own key to wind the clock, so once you purchase
the clock, you're all set!

The price for this piece is $1,650.00.
