The Lenzkirch clock factory achieved a reputation for making good quality, reliable clocks. The
regulator clocks had a worldwide reputation for their quality and reliability. These came into full
production about 1860.
This gorgeous Lenzkirch clock was made in the Black Forest section of Southwest part of Germany circa 1895
and has a very deep and resonating gong! The case measures 19.25" in
height,
11 1/2" wide at the top,
and 6.25" deep. The porcelain dial
(porcelain is known as enamel in Europe) measures 6" in diameter, and has
easily readable black Arabic numerals and a brass bezel. The clock is all
original and not missing any pieces.
The detail on the top
of the case is nothing less than outstanding! There is cross hatching carved into the
top of the clock and that is accented with six brass beads and in the very center,
is a brass carving of a lady's
head. There are also three wooden
finials to
augments this beautiful piece of work. Underneath all of that are three brass
buttons
that are further accented by a "corrugated" effect to the wood. The porcelain
dial is
augmented with gold hands and a brass bezel! There are also four
spandrels at each corner
of the dial area, which is further enhanced by four brass corners and again, the
wood has a corrugated effect to it that really sets it off.
Underneath the dial area are two more
"brass buttons"
and an elongated brass design with what appear to be acorns at either end. The
clock is finally finished off with a very nice pedestal which it rests on. All
in all, this is one beautiful clock.
The back of the
clock shows the immaculate movement
and gong, which has the Lenzkirch
emblem
stamped on the back. I guess that the only thing that further accents this
clock, is the accuracy and durability of the Lenzkirch name and the
beauty of the gong as it strikes the hour and half hours.
Lastly, I've had this clock ticking on shelf in my Den for several years now. It has always kept
very good time, and attracted a lot of attention & envy from the guests we've had.
I must say, this is one beautiful clock that I am very proud of!
