Absolutely Astounding Handcarved Case!
Made by The Resch Brothers in Ebensee, Austria
Runs Well & Keeps Good Time
All Original!
The case measures a full 54" in length, 16.25" wide at the top,
16" wide at the base,
and 8" deep
(there are glass panels on the sides of the clock). Shipping dimensions
are 39" x 16.25" x 6.75" and 35 pounds.
The door measures 29 1/2"
and has half columns running the full length on either side. The
pendulum
is ~26.5" in length, and the porcelain
dial
is a two tiered dial with a brass chapter ring insert and a brass
bezel that measures 7 1/4" in diameter. The dial is flawless (i.e. no
chips or hairlines of any sort).
The movement is marked
REMEMBER, O.V.R.M. Co. The Remember Company was formed in 1872
by Gebr. Resch of the Resch Brothers in Ebensee, Austria
(the Northern Central Part of Austria)and reached a peak production in
1885 of 12,000 to 15,000 clocks/year (which was quite an output back then).
This Transitional clock is one of the finest example of their workmanship that I
have ever seen (Please see our
Home Page for more information on the Periods that clocks were made).
A lot of detailed work went into this case. Just look at the engraving that was
done for the
top of the clock.
The engraving is really quite extraordinary as you can see in this close up view
of the crown. The sides
of the case are
adorned with half columns and there is a piece of engraved "draped" wood, just above
the dial. The wooden piece at the bottom
of the clock also has quite a bit of detail and engraved wood work! There is a "flourish" just
underneath the door which has a very beautifully engraved
bottom that
slopes gently down, to be finished off with a finial at the very base. All of
the finials and other parts of the case are all original. The case is
made from a very nice and finely carved grade of Walnut
that really makes the clock stand out. Both the pendulum
and the weights
are in excellent shape. The backboard
of the clock is very attractive and has a black inlaid
panel with
very attractive molding around its sides. This gives the clock an
additional air of distinction.
The clock is a Grande Sonnierie (you can see the complexity of a Grande
Sonnierie movement by looking at the front of the
movement),
so it chimes on the hour, half-hour
and quarter-hours on two
rods (i.e. it
chimes once for every quarter hour and then repeats the hour). So at the top of
the hour the clock will strike 4 times to indicate that 4 quarter-hour
periods have passed, and then will strike the hour, at the 45 minute position,
it'll chime three times and then strike the hour, etc. There is also a "chime silencer"
located at the top of the dial
(just above the 1:00 position), in case you don't want the clock to chime, say during the night or
while you're watching a movie.
The mounting for the movement on this clock are four posts
that fit - and lock into place - in four holes in the backplate of the
movement. So
all you have to do to remove the movement is to lift it a little and then pull
it out - very neat and easy. Be sure to remove the weights before
removing the movement, also the pendulum is fixed to the back of the clock. All of
the numbers on the movement,
pendulum, and
movement holder
(bracket) match, so this clock is truly complete and original!
I've received quite a few comments about this clock, not only due to the beauty of the case, but also
from the melodious quality of the chime rods! It will surely add a note of charm to the room
in which it is displayed.

Service (USPS). Wooden crates will be shipped by Yellow Freight:
- Very small cardboard boxes, e.g. pocket watches, watch chains, etc.: USPS Postage + Insurance
- Larger cardboard boxes: $25 (to have the item professionally packed) + USPS Postage & Insurance
- Wooden crates, up to, but not including Tall Case clocks (aka Grandfather clocks): $100 (to have
the crate built) + USPS Postage & Insurance
- Tall Case Clocks will be shipped by Craters & Freighters. You can calculate postage through
