Gustav Becker 8-Day Viennese Regulator

Walnut Case

Chimes on the Hour & Half Hour

Circa 1884

Runs Well & Keeps Good Time

Strikes Very Melodiously On A Single Rod

The regulator is Austrian built in the Braunau factory of Bohemia, Austria. It was the second factory of Gustav Becker and started in 1888. They started with a seperate serial number system at zero. The accurate Serial Number to use with this Becker Model would be the Freiburg Serial Number, which places the age of the clock at Circa 1888. Note that the Braunau logo is different than the Freiburg logo. The regulator is Austrian built in the Braunau factory of Bohemia, Austria. It was the second factory of Gustav Becker and started in 1888. They started with a seperate serial number system at zero. They introduced the rod gong in 1899 (Obergfell patent). They used the Austrian style bayonet movement mount; Freiburg did not. This S/N puts the date at 1907. If you were to use the Freiburg S/N then your 1888 would be close. Note that the Braunau logo is different than the Freiburg logo. This 2 weight Viennese Regulator is 44" in length, 16.5" wide at the top, 14.5" wide at the bottom, and 7.5" deep. Shipping dimensions are 42" in height by 16.5" wide by 7.5" deep, and the clock weighs ~22#. The dial is a two-tiered porcelain dial with a brass metal insert and a brass bezel. The dial measures 7" in diameter and is in immaculate shape with no hairlines, cracks or chips or any kind. Also, the dial has the Gustav Becker logo on it.

The case has marvelous and simplistic lines to it. The top is an arched sunburst and there are columns running the full length of either side of the door with Corinthian tops.

At the bottom of the clock is also an outstanding piece of work. The bottom curves gently down and there are three finials at the very bottom. The movement chimes on the hour and half-hour with a circular metal hammer on a rod. The movement also has the prestigious Gustav Becker stamps and the number 450808 which shows that the clock was made circa 1884.

The mounting for the movement on this clock are four posts that fit - and lock into place - into four holes in the back plate of the movement. So all you have to do to remove the movement, is to lift it up a little and then pull it out - very neat and easy. Be sure to remove the weights first before removing the movement, also the pendulum is fixed to the back of the clock, so there is no problem dealing with the pendulum. The clock is all original and not missing any pieces.

The price for this piece is $1,395.00.
