Hello, And Thank You
For Taking The Time To Look At Our Listing!

Just As A Note, The Watch Is Running Fine, Keeping Good Time, And Should Provide Many More Years Of Excellent Service!!

Dial: The dial is an excellent example of a beautifully engraved Sterling Silver Dial. Initially you'll see a Chapter Ring, then surrounding Paul Vallette's name, is a facsimile of a Theater's Curtain. All if all, it gives the dial that beautiful effect that only Silver can give you. There are no mars, dings, scrapes, etc. to mar this beautiful piece of art that we have for a dial! You will also notice the Art Deco Arabic Numerals, which were in vogue when the Niello process was popular.

Movement: The 17 Jewel movement for this watch is in excellent condition. In fact, it fits in perfectly with the rest of the watch in being in excellent condition! Also, I haven't tested it, but I believe that the movement may be Silver also. If its not Silver, it's Silver coated, but I scraped some of the "coating" away, and I didn't uncover any brass, so it's either Silver, Nickel or maybe, Silver coated Nickel. Just to watch this movement as it works is a thing of beauty, and to see the blur of the balance wheel over the cut outs in the Silver coated case, well, you'll just have to see it to believe it, but it's absolutely mesmerizing!

The inside of the back of the Case is marked "NIEL HF" in a shield in the shape of a Painter's Pallette. This is the symbol for Huguenin-Freres, Locle, Switerland, who was well renown for his work on Watch Cases (Page 707 Kochman, 2001); then the name "Paul Vallette" over "Swiss"; and finally "0.925" and "Sterling Silver", along with the many marks of the Tradesmen who have worked on it over the years.

Case: Except for some of the Niello missing from the bezels, the case is in excellent condition. Niello is a process that is done as follows, "Niello is made by a composition of Lead, Silver, Copper & Sulphur mixed with Ammonium Chloride (straight Borax was most commonly used). The mixture is then fused into place by applying heat or putting it into a jeweller's furnace so it would melt evenly and then when it has cooled, the mixture would be polished and finished off" (that was the process that was done on this and all Niello coated items, e.g. Pocket Watches, Pocket Watch Chains, Fobs, etc.).

Lastly, the covers fit together so well, that any space between the covers is almost imperceptible! All the details are sharp & crisp!

Well, that's all I can say. The Photos will tell you what you really want to know about the watch anyway.

The price for this Niello piece is $375.00

This Pocket Watch would make a very nice gift to that special someone, even if that "special someone" is you and your own collection!!
