A Truly Unique 17 Jeweled "Swiss Army" Pocket Watch

Circa 1885

Housed In A Demi-Hunter Case

The Easiest Winding "Key Wind" Watch That You'll Ever Have!

A Key Wind/Key Set Watch That Doesn't Need a Key!!!

A Truly Unique Watch!

Hello, and thank you
for taking the time to look at our listing!

This watch is a very atypical watch for several reasons. First of all, its housed in a Demi-Hunter Case. The story behind the origin of Demi-Hunter cases started when a person (allegedly an Englishman) was out hunting and was using a Hunter's Case, to further protect his watch. But this particular hunter got tired of opening the case everytime he wanted to see what time it was. So he pulls out his knife, a hunter's knife of course!, and cuts a hole in the center of the top cover of his Hunter's Case watch. Whether that truly happened or not, the idea is still the same. So you have the benifit of the added protection of having a Hunter's Cased Pocket Watch, plus when the top of the Hunter's Watch is closed, you can still tell what time it is, as in an Open Faced Pocket Watch, through the secondary watch dial. So you have a primary and a secondary watch dial, with one set of hands working on both dials.

The front of this Coin Silver case has Flowers & Leaves decorating the area around the hole for the Demi-Hunter part of the case. The front cover is opened by pushing down on the button on top of the stem. Sometimes it needs a little help, but it still opens to a nice & clean 90 degree angle. The back cover has a very peaceful and serene scene of a small country village with Mountains in the background and is encircled with a very nice vine like setting.

Another very unusual part of watch is the Dust Cover. The Dust Cover is made from brass and unlike a normal Key Wind/Key Set watch, instead of seeing the normal hole(s) you would expect to see in order to wind the watch or set the time, you instead find two tabs that lift up to either wind the watch or to set the time. So there is no key necessary! On top of these two winding tabs is written in English,

THE ARMY WATCH
WINDING WITHOUT A KEY

I have seen old Clock & Watch advertisments in various magazines showing these "Tabs" as pieces you could add to your watch, but I have never seen these as a part of a watch that has already been built. So this is truly a very outstanding and a very unusual pocket watch!! In addition to all of this, the watch is a very high jeweled (17) pocket watch!

Unfortunately, there is no further information that I can use, e.g. Hallmarks or writing of any sort, so I could not do any further identification of the watch. E.g., to find out if this was part of the equipment issued to the Swiss Army, etc.

Please be sure to look at the pictures at the end of the text to see more shots of this Pocket Watch!!

The price for this piece is $950.00
