Elgin 16 Size 21 Jewels B.W. Raymond
Railroad Grade Pocket Watch With a Gold Train!

Serial# 31,415,030          Date: Circa late 1927

Dial:   A Flawless White, Porcelain, Single Sunk Dial With Large Bold Arabic Numerals For The Hours & Spade Hands

Movement:   The closest I could come to determining a Grade for this movement, was Grade 391, but even G 391 doesn't list a Gold Train, which this watch has! So this watch very well could have been a special order!!

The Movement has the following special attributes:
21 Jewels in Gold Jewel Settings; A Gold Train (which is NOT mentioned in the Price Guide & its NOT something that you simply overlook!!); Adjusted to 5 Positions; Lever Set by the 1:00 Position; a Micro-Adjustor (Whip) Regulator & Beautifully Enhanced With A Striped Damaskeen.

Case: 16 Size; Open Faced; Silver Base Metal Case & Screw On/Off Front And Back Covers.

Professional Opinion: A Flawless Dial, With An Exquisite Movement That Has a Gold Train (as an Unexpected Treat!) & A Case Which Is In Excellent Condition! This is a Railroad Grade Pocket Watch that is running GREAT & keeping GREAT time! What else can I say except that this is just a GREAT BUY?!

Hello, And Thank You
For Taking The Time To Look At Our Listing!

Elgin's first watch was the B. (Benjamin) W. Raymond, who was one of the initial founders and was also once the Mayor of Chicago, was sold for ~$115 on April 1, 1867. Just to give you an example of one of the stringent standards placed on these Railroad Grade watches was that could only have a minimum variance of 30 seconds per week!

With the contrast of the Snow White dial & the BIG, BOLD numerals, you have a very easy to read dial, even in very dim light! The Cobalt Blue hands are all Mint. Overall, this is just a Great Looking Dial!

Once you take the bezel off you can see the perfection of this Dial!

The inside of the movement is absolutley flawless, with no scratches, abrasions, or anything to mar its preformance or its beauty!! The watch has been recently cleaned and is in excellent running condition! The movement has 21 Jewels in Gold Jewel Settings; A Gold Train; Gold Caps; Adjusted to 5 Positions; Lever Set by the 1:00 Position; & a Whip Lash Regulator! The movement is also beautifully enhanced with a Striped Damaskeen! The movement has the following written on it; B. W. Raymond; Elgin National Watch Company (written underneath the Balance Wheel; 21 Jewels; Serial #31,415,030 & Adjusted to 5 Positions. Overall, this movement is in Pristine condition!

The covers fit together so well, that any space between the covers is almost imperceptable!
The Case is smooth, except for the decorative lines that serve to provide you with better grips to open and close either cover!

On the iunside of the cover for the back of the watch, is written:

Illinois
Watch Case Co.
Spartan
Base Metal

and then the case's serial number. All of this is presented on overlapping swirls. So you have the type of watch that a Railroad Worker would buy. It has a strong & functional case, to protect the excellent "engine" that this 21 Jewel Movement is!!

The watch has not been abused at all! The case is in very good to excellent condition with only some minor scuff marks on the back! This watch not only looks great, but it preforms like a champ! Just what you would expect from a Railroad Grade Pocket Watch and just what you would expect someone who worked on a Railroad to buy!!

Well, that's all I can say. The Photos will tell you what you really want to know about the watch anyway.

The price for this piece is $450.00

This Pocket Watch would make a very nice gift to that special someone, even if that "special someone" is you and your own collection!!
