Professional Opinion:  Here you have an all original Verge Fusee Pocket Watch. The watch runs well and keeps good time, or considering the age of the watch, it keeps excellent time!! This is just the watch that people who collect true antique, or rather one of the very oldest of pocket watches, would buy!!

Hello, And Thank You
For Taking The Time To Look At Our Listing!

Background: This Verge Fusee is signed on the dial and movement, as being made by H. C. Volker. Herr Volker lived in Weener on the Northern Coast of Germany circa 1750. The watch is in excellent running condition, is housed in a Sterling Silver case and Silver Pair Case, which has a nice light patina.

As you can see, the Pair Case has a very nice patina to it! Through the Bulls Eye Crystal you can see the dial and the Moon Hands, which are in absolutely Perfect condition!!

A picture of the back of the Pair Case, again showing its excellent condition and the very nice patina that the Pair Case has!!

The front of the Verge itself shows a little blurriness by the Minute Chapter Ring, due to the curve on the sides of the Bulls Eye Crystal. It also shows off the wonderful condition of the dial, which is approximately 240 years old!

This is a very clear shot of the dial! The dial shows the Hour Chapter Ring in Roman Numerals and the Minute Chapter Ring in Arabic Numerals. Written on the dial is the name of the maker, H.C. Volker and below the hand arbor is the town where Herr Volker made the Verge Fusee, Weener. Weener is a town in the district of Leer, in Lower Saxony, Germany. Its located in Northeastern Germany, where Germany abuts the Atlantic Ocean.

By this shot of the movement's top, you can see what excellent shape the movement is in! The movement is marked, "H.C. Volker, Weerner". The movement also runs well and keeps good time!!

This shows a view of the Contrate Wheel and the edge of the Great Wheel. You can even
see a few of the Hallmarks.

A direct on shot of the Contrate Wheel, the Great Wheel with the chain wrapped around it. You can also see two of the Pillars in this shot. The Pillars look akin to the ones that Nathaniel Barrrow of England popularized back in 1680's, but
they were also used later by other Watch
Makers as this example shows.

A good pict of the edge of the watch and
showing where the chain first attaches
itself to the Spring Barrel.

The movement is in excellent condition, as
this shot of the Contrate Wheel & the
Great Wheel shows so clearly!

From the Hallmarks I was able to make out, it seems that the case was made in England and shipped to Germany, where the watch was built. It's also possible that the German's used many of the same Hallmarks as they used in England. Although I have a great number of Verge & Lever Fusee's, I don't know of any other German Fusee's in my collection to compare this one with.
The Hallmarks that I was able to make out are:
1) The Lion Passant Mark. This denotes the case as being made from Sterling Silver, its located at the 6:00 position.
2) The Maker's Mark, which is dead center (and upside down) of the inside of the back of the case. This denotes who made the watch case, in this instance "J.D.R.", was the case maker, but I haven't been able to identify who he was or where he was from.
3) The Jointer's Mark, located near the hinge. In this case, you'll see a "5", which is the Jointer's own special mark.
4) Lastly, the Serial # 94807, which matches the serial number of the Pair Case. So there is no mismatching here, everything to do with this Verge Fusee is ALL ORIGINAL!!
Those were all of the Hallmarks that I could make out. Due to the age of the case, many of the others were too worn down to make out.

The back of the Verge and a shot of the Winding Hole. Every shot you can see of this Verge shows you what great shape it is in!!

The front of both the Pair Case and the Verge are in excellent condition! They are both a true
pleasure to look at!!

This solidifies that every part of the Verge and Pair Case are in excellent condition! When the watch is running you hear that long, slow tick that Verge's are so well known for. If you like good, solid Verge's with a nice light patina, you'll just LOVE this watch!!

Well, that's all I can say. The Photos will tell you what you really want to know about the watch anyway.

The price for this piece is $1650.00

This Pocket Watch would make a very nice gift to that special someone, even if that "special someone" is you and your own collection!!

The picture was taken on Ford Island, which is the land mass in the middle of

The sneak attack on Pearl Harbor was centered on Battleship Row.
My canine "Son" shown in this picture is called "Verge", after the Verge Escapement!
