A "Poor Man's" Tourbillon - Circa 1878

This 18s 6 spoke Long Wind Skeleton Watch pocket watch has a duplex escapement and a Nickel open face case. The watch was made very simply, in fact it only has between 54 and 58 parts. The watch is called a "Poor Man's" Tourbillon because the movement revolves once per hour. The dial is made from paper and the watch originally sold for between $3 and $4.00. The first 1,000 watches were made by Benedict & Burnham Mfg. Co. (as this watch was) as is indicated on the back of the watch (see the center picture). The watch also comes in a celluloid case
