Eli Terry Niagara Brook Model 3A
The Tall Case clock was made by Eli Terry circa 1805 on the Niagara Brook in
Connecticut, USA. Many clocks back then were made on brooks as we didn't have the
metal foundries after the Revolutionary War (the metal was typically imported from England -
something else they could tax us on). The case is solid Cherry with a band of Mahogany
just underneath the bonnet. The gears are made from wood, most likely Ash, and the
movement runs for 30 hours. The weights are the original cans that would have been used
and filled with scrap metal to provide the weight. The clock stands 94" tall by 33"
wide at the base by 13" deep. The hands are pewter (with a spare set of wooden hands)
and the dial is painted with dyed milk!
This is truly a great piece of Americana!
