George Wood Tall Case Clock - Circa 1725
George Wood of Nailesworth, England made this Tall Case clock circa 1725. This
beautifully hand carved case is made from English Oak and stands 79" tall, 18 ¼"
wide, and 10 ½" deep. The clock is time only and has a calendar just above the
6:00 position.
When I first bought the clock and was cleaning it up, I found a small piece of paper
folded up into a small square. The paper was a page from a ledger that was written on linen
paper (linen paper was made from old clothes and was used before we started
making paper from wood pulp).
Linen paper
also doesn't degrade very much with time, so the page looks very much today, as
it did when it was written in Edinburgh on August 31, 1844 (158 years ago!). If you would like to

I did my best to faithfully reproduce the letter and I found it very interesting to read,
as its yet another glimpse into the past of this marvelous clock.
