A Hygens Vienna Regulator by Elsner & Petrovits - Circa 1845
This 8-day Hygens was made by Elsner & Petrovits circa 1845 and has a weight suspension
system according to Hygens (which is identical to the movement and suspension in
Claterbos's "Viennese Clockmakers and What They Left Us" on page 61), reverse painted glass dial, Graham escapement,
in a 6 windowed, straight-sided blonde Biedermier case. The pendulum has a
hanging mount with a silver stick (Invar steel won't expand or contract),
a silk thread suspension, and a Biedermier bob. The clock has a dual pediment
top, the original finish, a reverse painted
glass dial marked "Elsner & Petrovits in Wien", and is in mint condition. The
dial is 6 ½" in diameter, and the case is 10 ¼" x 33" x 4 ½".
