Vincenti "Ribbon" Clock
Circa 1860

This clock was made by the famous French clockmaker M. Vencenti and won a Silver Medal (Medaille D' Argent Vencenti & Cie (Co.) in 1855. The clock is very attractively decorated with 24 Kt Gilt on the entire case. Gilt of this age, was applied to a base metal, such as brass, by the mercuric gilding process - also called fire gilding and water gilding. The dial is marked "ALMCO GALLERIES" and the dial and the brass or gilt hands are flawless! I would describe the beauty and incredible craftsmanship of the clock, but that is all too obvious to even the most casual observers in these pictures. So enjoy looking at the breathtaking work of this most uncommon piece of art!
