Vincenti "Ribbon" Clock
Circa 1860
This clock was made by the famous French clockmaker M. Vencenti and won a Silver Medal
(Medaille D' Argent Vencenti & Cie (Co.) in 1855. The clock is very attractively
decorated with 24 Kt Gilt on the entire case. Gilt of this age, was applied to a base metal,
such as brass, by the mercuric gilding process - also called fire gilding and water gilding.
The dial is marked "ALMCO
GALLERIES" and the dial and the brass or gilt hands are flawless! I would
describe the beauty and incredible craftsmanship of the clock, but that is all too
obvious to even the most casual observers in these pictures.
